  History of Wildcat Wrestling

    The Wrestling program has had a long and storied history at Warren County.  The wildcats started their program in 1975, long after their counter parts of football, baseball and basketball began. The grapplers quickly rose to a strong sport in the school.  The wrestlers were a hardworking and tough group that stayed together through the early years even with small numbers and coaching changes. Without those teams fighting together, the cats may have never become the program they are today.  In 1985 the cats lost their coach and were unable to compete in team competition (only post-season).  So in 1986 Warren County hired a new coach - Charlie Dodge  (see bio in Coaching staff link). Coach Dodge resurrected the program and in only a few short years built the team into a leading power in the District, Region, and State.   Coach Seemiller (Dodge's assistant) then took over the reins in 1999 and kept the legacy going forward getting their 1st state champ [Eric Hawes] in 2000.  Coach Seemiller then lead the Cats to their first Region title in 2003 ending his career in 2005 with with numerous team titles and place-winners.  In 2006 Coach Wadas became the next head coach working under both Seemiller and Dodge during his years.  In 2007 the High School split in two - Warren County High School and Skyline High School.  While at the helm Wadas worked hard to keep the Cats on top level of VA wrestling.  The Cats crowned the school's second state champ, Zach Beckner in 2015.  He became the school's first two time champ in 2016.   Wadas has lead the Cats to a large number of team and individual titles winning region titles in 2017 and 2018.  In 2018 the Cats won the District title, Region title and finished 2nd in the State, their highest finish in school history. In 2021 Wadas topped  350 wins - the most for a Head Coach at Warren County in any sport.  The Wildcats are currently in the Northwestern District, Region 3B , and 3A State Classification.  The state has recently gone under a number of changes to divisions and Districts.  Warren County was a founding member of the Northwest District and were a member of Region II and 2A State Classification for most of their history.  Since the teams inception the cats have had over 650 team wins for the school, 9 district titles, 2 conference titles, 3 region titles, 1 State Runner Up finish, and too many individuals titles to count.  The Cats continue to be a top sport representing Warren County in the School and in the State of Virginia.
